About product

The color

A modeling paint from the Orange Line range by Hataka, listed under the designation HTK-C269. The name defines it as a sulfur yellow shade to the European RAL chart, entry 1016. A reference to the chart is useful during a build: it lets the shade be compared with period documentation and with the paints of other ranges without having to rely on the name alone. Judge the cast against the manufacturer's chart, as the rendering on a screen always differs a fair bit from the dried paint.

Where you will use the color

A saturated yellow appears on models in smaller areas rather than as the main color of a whole machine: on warning markings, on stripes and lettering, on ground support vehicles, on engineering equipment and on accessories in a scene. It is with yellow that you see how little it covers, so it pays to prepare a light base under it.

Thinning and application

  • shake the bottle thoroughly before work, as the pigment settles at the bottom
  • use the thinner made for this range and keep to the thinning ratio in the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging
  • apply several thin coats with drying in between, as a heavy coat floods the engraving
  • lay a light base under the yellow, otherwise the plastic will show through
  • test the shade on an offcut before you lay it on the model

Painting tips

Pull sharp edges of yellow stripes with masking tape, which you lay on the dried base before spraying and lift as soon as the paint has set. Work in a ventilated area.

Terms of supply

One bottle of paint is supplied. The thinner, brushes and airbrushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Use the thinner made for this range and keep to the thinning ratio in the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging. A thinner from a foreign range can curdle the binder and the coat then goes grainy.

It is an entry in the European chart of colors that the shade refers to. It lets the paint be compared with documentation and with the shades of other ranges.

Yellow pigments have low covering power. Lay a light base under them and apply several thin coats; one heavy coat will not save the result.

The volume of the package is given on the packaging. One bottle of the HTK-C269 shade is supplied.
