A set of six acrylic shades for the USAF aggressor squadrons: the desert and winter camouflage schemes with which the US Air Force imitated its Soviet opponents.
Responsibility details are not available.
From 1972 the US Air Force kept an opponent of its own. The aggressor squadrons flew small and agile machines, practiced Soviet tactics and were painted in the schemes that the aircraft on the other side of the Iron Curtain wore. Almost every American fighter pilot met them at the Red Flag exercises over Nevada.
The finishes were divided into several families. The desert variant worked with sand and brownish fields, while the so-called winter or arctic scheme used several shades of gray that dissolved the machine against cloud and against snow-covered ground alike. It is precisely these two families that the set covers.
The contents are six bottles of acrylic paint thinnable with water, suitable for an airbrush and for a brush:
The set does not aim at one type alone. The aggressor coats changed over the years on small supersonic trainers, on two-seat trainers and on later combat aircraft, and the palette stayed the same at its core. Anyone building a whole squadron will get by with it for several models at once.
The federal standard numbers given make it easier to mix with other ranges and to look the subjects up in profile drawings. Before spraying we recommend shaking the bottles properly and applying in thin layers; the covering power is noticeably lower with the light desert tones than with the grays.
