About product

Tamiya X-16 Purple - a Gloss Acrylic Paint, 10 ml

A Tamiya acrylic paint from the Acrylic Mini range in a 10 ml bottle. At Tamiya the prefix X means a gloss surface; the matte shades carry the XF designation. X-16 is purple, a saturated and bright shade that holds its gloss once dry. The paint is water thinnable, covers well, flows smoothly and mixes with the other Tamiya shades without any trouble. A note: this is a modeling paint, it is not a kit.

Use

  • Racing and sports finishes: purple appears in the color schemes of sports cars and motorcycles, where a gloss finish is expected.
  • Sci-fi models, mecha and fantasy: purple is a classic for unreal and stylized schemes.
  • Figures: purple parts of clothing, cloaks, accessories.
  • Mixing: with blue or red it makes your own shades of purple, and with white it makes pastel tones.
  • Small accents and details that are meant to stand out on a model.

Thinning and application

Thin the paint with Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner. It can be applied with a brush and with an airbrush. Purple is among the shades that cover less well; on a lighter base it looks brighter and cleaner. Spray thin coats and let them dry properly.

Gloss and decals

A gloss surface is not just aesthetics: it is an ideal base under decals. A decal does not silver on gloss, because no air pockets remain under the film. On racing models with sponsor markings that is essential.

Who the paint is for

For modelers of racing vehicles, for sci-fi and fantasy builders, for figure painters and for anyone who mixes a palette of their own. The small 10 ml package suits exactly the shades like purple: you usually need it only for a detail or once, so a large jar would mostly go unused and you will not be left with dried-up paint in a drawer.

Use in a well-ventilated area. Protect your airways when spraying with an airbrush. Keep out of the reach of children.
