X-26 Clear Orange (Enamel)

Tamiya X-26 Clear Orange (Enamel), transparent orange, 10 ml

A paint from the Tamiya enamel (synthetic, solvent-based) range in a bottle of 10 ml. The designation X means a gloss surface. X-26 is a transparent orange: it works as a colored clear that tints the base but does not hide it. Over a light, silver or clear base it creates a deep orange translucency, while over a dark base it barely shows at all.

What it is and what it is not

It IS: a tinting transparent enamel for clear parts and color effects. It is NOT: an opaque orange paint for the areas of a body or a fuselage; an ordinary opaque shade is needed for that. Beware also of confusing it with the acrylic version of the same number X-26, which exists separately. This item is an ENAMEL: it is thinned with X-20 thinner (the enamel one, without the letter A), not with the acrylic X-20A. Do not mix the thinners up.

Use

• Orange light covers, warning beacons and rotating lights.
• Indicators and turn signals on cars, motorcycles and vehicles.
• Tinting clear parts: lamp covers, lenses, transparent plastics.
• A warm cast on metal exhausts and heat-stressed parts (combined with other transparent shades).
• Colored clears over a gloss silver base.

Thinning and application

Usable with an airbrush as well as a brush. For spraying, thin it with Tamiya X-20 thinner. The depth of the orange grows with the number of coats, so apply them thin and let the paint set between them, otherwise blotches and uneven translucency appear. Enamel paint dries more slowly than acrylic, which helps a smooth flow, but the part stays sensitive to touch for longer.

Who it is for

For modelers of cars, motorcycles, aircraft and construction and fire vehicles who need faithful orange beacons, indicators and tinted clear parts. Suitable for less experienced modelers as well, as long as they bear in mind that the paint is transparent, not opaque.

A flammable liquid. It irritates the airways. Work in a well-ventilated area, use respiratory protection and protect your eyes and skin. Keep out of the reach of children and away from open flame.
