1:35 kitchen tablecloths & towels

Kitchen tablecloths and towels 1:35 — a printed accessory for a diorama

A paper sheet with printed motifs of kitchen tablecloths and towels in 1:35 scale from ETA diorama. It is not a plastic kit or a decal lifted off in water — the individual motifs are cut out and glued straight into a scene. Textiles are among the hardest things to improvise in a diorama, and printed material solves that problem quickly.

Use in a scene

Tablecloths are aimed at tables in interiors, at field kitchens and at civilian scenes; towels suit being draped over the edge of a table, the back of a chair or a rail. It is precisely the fold over an edge that is the strongest trick with paper: unlike plastic, paper holds its shape and remembers a crease once crumpled, so a draped edge can be convincingly formed.

Tips for gluing and weathering

• Dampen the paper lightly before shaping; it then holds the fold and the print does not crack.
• Form the draped edge over the edge of a table and hold it until the PVA glue has dried.
• Darken or paint the back of a motif that will be visible — the white face of paper gives a scene away.
• A light wash in the folds creates shadow and the paper looks like fabric at once.
• A final matte clear coat unifies the surface and strengthens thin cut-out parts.

Who the sheet is for

For modelers who build interiors and civilian scenes in 1:35 scale and want to make them lived-in without painting textiles by hand. It will also serve well to complete a finished diorama that is missing small details of everyday life.

It is a printed paper accessory for a diorama, not a kit and not a waterslide decal. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
