Masking set 1:48 CH-53 GS/G - ADVANCED grade

Pre-cut masks of kabuki tape for a model of the CH-53 heavy transport helicopter in the G and GS versions in 1:48 scale. With New Ware sets ADVANCED is the middle level of coverage - it covers more than the basic BASIC but does not go as far as EXPERT. The package contains masking pieces, not a kit.

Why the set pays off on this subject

A large transport helicopter is among the most demanding things a modeler can meet in terms of masking: a large glazed nose with divided framing, a row of cabin windows along the fuselage and on top of that transparent covers in other places on the airframe. In 1:48 scale that means a lot of pieces and a lot of chances to get something wrong. Cutting that many windows by hand takes a whole evening, and one bad cut is enough to leave one frame lopsided and glaring.

Recommended procedure

• Wash all the transparent parts first and let them dry completely.
• Apply the masks in one sitting if possible, so that the conditions and the pressure are the same.
• Check the adhesion against the light; a gap shows as a light line.
• Spray the frames first in the interior shade, then in the exterior finish.
• On large areas inside the masks use tape as well; it saves paint.
• Take the masks off gradually and at an angle, not straight away from the surface.
