An injection-molded plastic kit of the Sikorsky H-34 transport helicopter in the Pirate and UH-34D versions of the US Marine Corps, from Italeri in 1:48 scale. The box contains clear parts for the glazing, a photo-etched fret and decals for several color versions. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted; for the exact package contents, follow the enclosed instructions.
The H-34 series of helicopters grew out of a Sikorsky anti-submarine machine (the Seabat and Seahorse series) and from the second half of the 1950s the US Marine Corps operated it in large numbers. It was powered by a Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial piston engine placed in the nose, from where a shaft ran to the main rotor. The machine could carry about sixteen fully equipped troops or a load of supplies and was used for transport and for assault operations; in the versions with machine guns it also served for direct support.
First finish and paint the interior of the cargo compartment and the cockpit before you close the fuselage — afterwards you will not reach them. Mask the glazing and glue it so that no smears are left. Attach the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. Spray the rotor blades and settle the decals; for a convincing look, fine weathering of the exhaust stains and worn metal on the exposed edges works well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
