The Lewis Mk III aircraft machine gun in 1:48 scale, a pair from the manufacturer GasPatch models, a detailed accessory for models of aircraft from the period of the First World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of two miniatures of the Lewis aircraft machine gun in the Mk III version for models of aircraft from the period of the First World War in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory that will replace the coarser weapon from a kit. The Greek manufacturer GasPatch models is known among modelers precisely for small weapons and accessories with exceptionally fine detail.
The Lewis was a light machine gun with a characteristic pan magazine fitted from above. In its aircraft form it was lightened and freed of its cooling jacket, because cooling in flight was provided by the flowing air. It served mainly as the flexible weapon of an observer in the rear cockpit of two-seat machines, and with some fighters also as a weapon on the upper wing firing over the propeller disc. It is precisely the pan magazine and the lightened barrel that make the Lewis the most conspicuous detail in the cockpit of many models from this period, and at the same time the place where molded plastic shows up most in the result.
The parts are very small, so work over a tray with a raised rim, so that they do not fall away from you. Separate them with a sharp knife on a hard surface, not with nippers, which can deform them. They are glued with a small amount of cyanoacrylate glue; apply the drop on the tip of a piece of wire or a pin, not straight from the bottle. Apply a thin primer before painting. The weapon looks best in a dark steel shade, which once dry is polished over with graphite from a pencil, or the edges are only gone over gently with a metallic paint. Run a dark wash into the hollows of the magazine and leave the body rather matte. Fit the machine gun only at the end of the build, so that you do not damage it during handling.
The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted and without a model of an aircraft.
