A plastic kit of the American destroyer U.S.S. Zumwalt DDG-1000 in 1:700 scale, with a hull whose sides slope inward as they rise and with an angular superstructure.
Responsibility details are not available.
U.S.S. Zumwalt DDG-1000 is the first ship of the class of US Navy destroyers of the same name. You will recognize her by the hull, whose sides slope inward as they rise, and by the angular superstructure into which the equipment that used to stand out in the open on deck has been drawn. Both pursue the same aim, namely the smallest possible radar return. Masts, funnels and antennas all vanish into one continuous block, so the silhouette of the ship comes across more as a floating monolith than as a classic warship.
This is a plastic kit. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so have polystyrene cement, a sharp blade and fine abrasive paper ready. Cut the parts off a little away from the edge and rather sand the remainder, so that the edge is not damaged. The joints on the hull deserve careful filling and sanding, because on continuous smooth surfaces every irregularity shows.
Sloping walls reflect light differently from vertical sides, so apply the paint in thin coats and rather in two stages. A heavy coat rounds the edges off and hides the fine relief this shape stands on. Set the decks and walkways apart only after the base shade has dried, and leave the gentle emphasis of the recesses in a darker tone until the end, so that the model gains depth even without painting small details.
The set will please modelers interested in contemporary warships and anyone who wants a shape in their display case that is not common among ships. A scale of 1:700 means that the finished model takes up little room and fits even into a smaller case.
The package holds the parts of the kit. Paints, glue and filler are not included, unless stated otherwise.
