A kit of the American Stout Skycar II light aircraft in 1:72. In this scale the manufacturer Avis concentrates on less usual, prototype and little known machines that are in short supply elsewhere; its range holds a whole series of them. The Stout Skycar belongs among the American interwar attempts at an everyman's personal aircraft, that is a simple and cheap machine for private flying. The designer William Bushnell Stout, known above all for his work on all-metal transport aircraft, built several successively modified prototypes with a high-wing layout and a propeller mounted at the rear. The concept never reached series production and the machines remained at the prototype stage.
Small kits of rare aircraft usually have no locating pins, so dry-fit everything and define the joints precisely in advance. Glue the transparent parts with an adhesive intended for them or with thin PVA, which leaves no clouding. Light finishes and any bare metal area call for a smooth surface: sand the parting lines to a high smoothness, otherwise the marks will show. Varnish the surface with a gloss compatible with the paint used before the decals, and even the finished model out with a semi-gloss or gloss coat according to the character of the real subject. Given how thin the landing gear parts are, it pays to glue them on only after the fuselage has been painted.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
