An unassembled plastic kit of the Do 17Z bomber in 1:144 scale, focused on machines operated by the Finnish Air Force. For a collector that is exactly what makes it interesting: the same type of aircraft in a less usual operator guise means different markings and a different look, so two machines of identical construction can stand side by side in the display case and still look different. Mark I has long concentrated on 1:144 scale.
The Do 17 was a German twin-engine bomber whose slim fuselage earned it the nickname the flying pencil. The Z version is the last large production series, recognizable by its raised and fully glazed nose and by the radial engines in rounded cowlings. The designations Z-2 and Z-3 distinguish the bomber and the photo-reconnaissance versions. Some machines of this type entered service with the Finnish Air Force, where they served through the 1940s alongside equipment of the most varied origin: the Finnish Air Force operated an exceptionally mixed collection of types at the time.
Mask the glazed nose with narrow strips of tape and glue it with canopy glue. The Finnish machines carried different camouflage and different national insignia than the original operator, so take a good look at the scheme enclosed in the package before spraying and plan the order of the shades. Thin the paint and spray at lower pressure so that the engraving stays legible at the small scale. If you want to suggest operation in a winter setting, work with light effects very sparingly: at 1:144 scale even a small amount is easily overdone.
