1:32 F-4E Phantom II is a set of glazing masks from Dead Design for a large model of the two-seat jet fighter-bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the clear parts of the cabin. It is not a kit but an accessory that takes the place of cutting tape by hand and secures sharp edges of the frames.
The Phantom has a tandem cabin, so the glazing is made up of the windshield and several canopies over the stations that follow one after another. There are a lot of frames, they have various widths and some of them break across a curve. Masking an assembly like that by hand is one of the most tiresome parts of a build and the inaccuracies add up - with pre-cut masks the width of the frame is the same over the whole model. In 1:32 scale the clear parts measure several centimeters, so unlike in small scales they are comfortable to work with.
Wash and degrease the clear parts, then stick the masks on one after another starting from the biggest fields. Go over every edge with a blunt toothpick. Spray in thin coats and start with the interior shade, so that any running under does not create a foreign color on the inner side. Take the mask off shortly after it has gone tacky, pulling at a sharp angle. Leave the clear parts to the end of the build and until then store them away from the work surface - a mask will not save scratched glazing. Before gluing them in, check the edges against the light to see whether the paint has run under anywhere.
