About product

A figure of a German non-commissioned officer, Poland 1944, in 1:35 scale (Rado Miniatures)

A resin figure in 1:35 scale from the Poland 1944 Under Fire range by Rado Miniatures. The abbreviation Usha. in the name corresponds to the non-commissioned rank of Unterscharführer; according to the name the figure is assigned to the 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking and dated to the fighting in Poland in 1944. It is a stand-alone figure meant to be added to models of equipment and to dioramas in the same scale, not a vehicle model. According to the name the package holds a single figure.

How to work the figure into a scene

A figure with a non-commissioned rank behaves differently in a scene from a rank-and-file soldier. It naturally becomes the center of gravity of the composition: the other figures turn toward it, it holds itself more loosely and tends to stand a step to one side. When you put a vignette together from several figures of the same range, it pays to decide first who is the main one and only then to place the rest. The second thing is the line of sight. A figure should not look out of the scene, or the diorama will visually run off past the edge of the base. With two figures it is enough for their gazes to meet or to point at the same spot, and the scene holds together at once.

Building and painting tips

Wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting block off with a fine saw and sand the area wet with respiratory protection. Reinforce the joints of the arms and the head with a short wire pin and check dry how the folds follow on from each other before you glue for good. Spray on a thin layer of primer before painting, as a heavy layer clogs the fine detail of the collar and the buckles. Build the uniform up from the base tone, make the shadows with a glaze of a darker tone of the same color and lighten the edges with a dry brush. It pays to paint the small differences in equipment before you glue the figure together, as a brush will not reach some places afterwards. A final matte varnish evens out the sheen of the whole figure.

FAQ

It corresponds to the non-commissioned rank of Unterscharführer. It is the rank designation of the figure, which the manufacturer uses in the name of the set.

According to the name it is a single figure.

Yes, figures of the same range share the scale and the sculpting style, so they can be put together in one scene. Check the particular poses, though, so that they work with each other.

Once glued, a brush will not reach the places between the arm and the body or under the equipment. Painting them beforehand is quicker than struggling to get at them later.
