1:35 Sd.Kfz 234/2 Puma engine grills is a photo-etched accessory set for a plastic kit you have already bought, not a model of the vehicle. It replaces the solid plastic imitation of the cooling grilles with genuinely see-through metal mesh.
Responsibility details are not available.
A targeted photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler meant for improving a plastic kit you already have. It is not a kit of the armored car; the set holds accessory metal parts only and is cut for one particular kit, from Italeri. It deals with a detail everyone notices on a finished model: the grilles above the engine compartment. In injection-molded plastic they are always merely suggested as engraving or as a shallow mesh with a solid bottom, so that seen from above it is plainly visible that the air has no way to flow.
The Sd.Kfz 234/2, nicknamed the Puma, was a German heavy eight-wheeled reconnaissance armored car of the Second World War. It had all-wheel drive, steering on both outer axles, a second driving position for reversing and a diesel engine placed at the rear. In a closed, streamlined turret it carried a 50 mm gun, which made it an unusually heavily armed type among reconnaissance vehicles. The engine deck at the rear was fitted with grilles for the intake and the outlet of the cooling air - and it is precisely those that form the surface in view on a model.
The procedure is simple but calls for order. Remove the original plastic imitation of the grille, cut the opening through with a scalpel and level the edges. Cut the photo-etched part out on a hard surface and glue it on with a thin layer of super glue around the edge - the glue must not run into the openings, or the see-through grille will be a solid area again. Applying the glue with the tip of a piece of wire, not straight from the bottle, proves its worth. Spray the inside of the engine compartment under the grille with a matte black paint before fitting it; the depth under the grille then makes a convincing impression even without a detailed interior. Paint the grille with an airbrush from an oblique angle in thin coats, as a heavy coat of paint will blind the openings. At the end a light dust pigment that settles in the openings helps.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
