This is a photo-etched detail set from the Czech maker Eduard, not a vehicle kit. The set is made for a plastic model of the Sd.Kfz.186 Jagdtiger heavy tank destroyer in the version with Porsche running gear, in 1:35. The photo-etched parts are from thin metal sheet, so radiator grilles, brackets, tool clamps, lifting eyes and other small items look incomparably finer once replaced than plastic, which for manufacturing reasons always has a certain minimum thickness. It is on large vehicles in 1:35 that this difference shows most, because the hull surfaces are broad and detail on them is highly visible.
The Jagdtiger was a German heavy tank destroyer from the end of the Second World War, built on the lengthened chassis of a heavy tank and fitted with a large-caliber gun in a fixed casemate. It was the heaviest tracked fighting vehicle in series production of its day, which told on its mobility and reliability. It was made in two patterns of running gear, and the Porsche variant differs from the other in the number and arrangement of its road wheels. Only a small number were built.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend them in a bending tool, so that the edges come out straight. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin; sand the plastic surface under the part first. Finish the running gear and the interior detail before you close the hull up. Degrease the metal before painting and cover it with a primer coat. Weathering stands out on the large hull surfaces: a dark wash into the recesses, a dry brush on the edges and pigments for the mud and dust deposits around the running gear.
The set is neither a model nor a kit; it is an add-on to a model sold separately. The paints, the glue and the tools are not included in the package.
