About product

Fujimi 1:350 IJN Carrier Battleship Hyuga

An injection-molded plastic kit of a ship in 1:350 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. It captures the battleship Hyuga of the Imperial Japanese Navy in her rebuilt hybrid form with a flight deck at the stern. The larger 1:350 scale allows richer detail than smaller ship models.

The real subject

The Hyuga belonged to the Ise class. During the war she was rebuilt into a hybrid battleship in which a flight deck and a hangar for floatplanes replaced the rear gun turrets. An unusual combination of a battleship and an aircraft carrier thus came into being.

Building and painting tips

Build the hull according to the form of the kit, and supplement the flight deck and the superstructures with photo-etched parts, which are sold separately. Paint with an airbrush, set the wooden deck apart by masking and build the weathering up in layers with washes and pigments; a larger scale forgives fewer mistakes in the cleanliness of the joints.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of Japanese battleships in the larger 1:350 scale
  • Anyone interested in unusual hybrid designs
  • More advanced modelers of ships
  • Builders looking for a striking display piece

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
