A wooden deck overlay for a model in 1:350 scale, cut for the Bronco NB5017 kit. A plastic deck can be painted, but it never has the grain of the fibers or the fine division into planks that the eye recognizes on real wood. The overlay erases that difference: the surface is real wood, it plays with the viewing angle and it is finished as soon as it is glued on. On nineteenth century ships, where the deck forms a large continuous area, this is the most pronounced change you can give a model.
Chen Yuen was one of the ironclads of the Chinese Peiyang Fleet, the main naval force of China at the end of the nineteenth century. Ships of this type were built by German shipyards and were heavily armored and armed for their day. The Peiyang Fleet clashed with the Imperial Japanese Navy in 1894 and 1895. Artwox also makes a sister deck for the ship Chin Yuen, cut for a different kit, so check the kit number when choosing.
First lay the deck on dry and check whether the cutouts fit the bases of the superstructure and the masts. Check the method of attachment in the instructions, because some decks have an adhesive back. Clear the base of dust and grease, otherwise the joint will not hold. Fit it before the fragile superstructure and railings go onto the model. The surface can be unified with a suitable varnish at the end; make a test on an offcut.
A wooden deck is supplied. The ship kit, paints, varnish and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
