About product

Ultra Detail Guide, GT40 1968

This title from the Ultra Detail Guide modeling series published by Komakai concentrates on a single car: the Ford GT40 in the form in which it raced in 1968. It is a standalone printed work, not an insert for a box with a kit, and it serves as support at the moment a modeler is working out the appearance of one particular machine.

What the publication covers

The GT40 came out of an ambition to beat the Italian competition in endurance racing, and from the middle of the 1960s it became one of the most successful sports cars of its day. A low closed body, a V8 mounted behind the driver's back and hard development driven by a works budget made it a machine that dominated Le Mans for several seasons in a row. The year 1968 has a special place in that: new technical regulations cut the engine capacity of the prototypes and older but perfectly honed cars came back into play. The GT40 seized that opportunity and added another win in the twenty-four hour race. The blue and orange livery it ran in at the time is one of the best known schemes in the history of circuit racing.

Who it is for

It will be appreciated by modelers who build the GT40 in any scale and want reference on one particular year to hand, and by collectors of literature on the sports prototypes of the 1960s. It also serves well as a gift for someone who enjoys endurance racing and its machinery.

The extent, the language and the make-up of the contents are given on the cover of the publication. The publication is sold on its own; neither a model nor modeling material is included.

FAQ

It is not. It is a printed publication from the Ultra Detail Guide series; no plastic parts, decals or other building material are included in the price.

The publication is not tied to a scale. It will serve equally well for small car models and for large collector builds of the Ford GT40.

1968 is one of the key seasons for the GT40: after the change in the prototype regulations the car won at Le Mans again, and its appearance at that time is the most sought after among modelers.
