ACH-47A Armed Chinook Expert kabuki masks 1:48 (New Ware)

This is NOT a model but a set of self-adhesive masks from New Ware for a plastic kit of the armed version of the ACH-47A Armed Chinook helicopter in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from Japanese washi (kabuki) masking paper and give a sharp color border. The Expert version is the fullest set: the glazing including the sealant and the inner-face masks, the exterior and position lights, and the wheels.

The real subject

The ACH-47A was an armed (gunship) conversion of the heavy CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter with its pair of contra-rotating rotors. Nicknamed Guns A Go-Go, only a few were built and they were combat-tested during the Vietnam War. They carried heavy onboard armament in armored positions, and the side glazing of the cabin is extensive and intricate on the model.

• Masking the frame sealant, the inner faces, the lights and the wheels
• Sharp color borders with no bleeding under the mask
• The paper conforms well to the shape and lifts off easily once the paint has dried
