A resin nose for converting the Dornier Do 17 night fighter to the Z-6 version in 1:48 scale is fitted without cutting into the fuselage. Target kit: ICM Do-17 Z-10.
Responsibility details are not available.
A one-piece casting in gray resin turns the later night fighter form of the Dornier into the earlier Z-6 version. The part is fitted in place of the original nose from the kit, there is no need to cut into the model and around its edge it has a seating that makes an accurate fit easier. The set is intended for the ICM Do-17 Z-10 kit.
The nickname the flying pencil stuck to the Dornier because of its slender fuselage. When the Luftwaffe was looking for a night fighter in 1940, it reached for an existing airframe and fitted it with a solid nose taken over from the Junkers Ju 88 C-2 with concentrated gun armament. A machine modified in this way was given the designation Z-6 and the nickname Kauz. Only a few were built and the Z-10 form with a newly designed nose soon replaced them.
The casting is first washed in lukewarm water with detergent to rid it of mold release agent residues. Cut the casting block off with a saw, not with pliers, and level the surface on abrasive paper laid on glass. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. The joint is glued with super glue, and any gap is filled with putty and polished over.
The kit into which the nose is fitted is not part of the delivery and is bought separately.
