A pair of GBU-31 bombs in the naval thermally protected version, 1:32 scale from Reskit is, according to the name, made by 3D printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
An armament accessory for large models of combat aircraft. The name gives two pieces, the 3D printed version and the link to American carrier-borne and attack machines. The GBU-31 designation belongs to the heavy class of JDAM kits, that is, to kits that turn an ordinary free-fall bomb into guided munition. The set contains neither an aircraft nor carriage equipment beyond what is given in the name.
A JDAM kit consists of a tail section with control surfaces and a navigation unit that combines satellite positioning with an inertial unit. The bomb thus aims at given coordinates regardless of the weather and the visibility. The versions used by the US Navy additionally received a heat-resistant treatment of the casing, because munition stored in hangars and on the deck of a ship has to meet stricter requirements for resistance to fire. It is precisely this version that the set represents.
The tail surfaces are thin and bend easily in transport, so keep the set in its original packaging until its turn comes. Degrease the whole surface before painting and apply a thin layer of primer, otherwise every fingerprint will show on the smooth areas. Hang the bombs on a finished model and line their position up with the horizontal plane, not with the wing. The markings on munition tend to be very small, so keep a steady hand and good light for them.
