The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the main carrier fighter of the US Navy and the Marine Corps in the first years of the war in the Pacific. The F4F-4 version received folding wings so that more aircraft would fit on the deck of an aircraft carrier, and six heavy-caliber machine guns. It was these aircraft that bore the brunt of the fighting at Midway and over Guadalcanal. The cockpit sits high and the view into it through the framed glazing is good, so the interior is not lost on a finished model.
The set brings colored three-dimensional elements printed on backing decal paper, with a raised relief. They take the place of hand painting the instrument panel, the side walls and the consoles, and they add instrument lettering that cannot be produced with a brush in 1:48 scale. The elements are shaped to the parts of the Eduard kit.
Quinta Studio elements of the QD line are applied by the wet method. Cut the part out of the sheet, dip it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide it off the backing paper into place. The element has no adhesive layer of its own, so paint the surface beforehand, let it dry thoroughly and cover it with gloss clear coat. A decal softener does not belong here, as it would attack the printed resin and ruin the element. Place the elements with tweezers, soak up the excess water and press them down with a cotton swab so that they seat even in the corners; in a broken-up spot a drop of super glue helps. Try the finished interior dry before you glue the fuselage halves together.
The set suits a modeler who is building the Wildcat with an open cockpit and wants to finish the interior without painting the small instruments. The box contains interior elements; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
