Main wheels for the Re 2000, 1:48

An accessory set of main wheels for a model of the Italian Reggiane Re 2000 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of the aircraft but a replacement part. Wheels are among the parts where a replacement shows most: they have a more faithful tread pattern, crisper hub detail and no mold seam, which on a plastic wheel runs right around the circumference.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts off the casting blocks with a fine saw and sand the cut face. Wash the resin in lukewarm water with detergent before painting. It is bonded with super glue. A tire is not black but rather a very dark gray, and once painted it comes alive with dust on the tread. Paint the hub separately and pick its edge out in a lighter tone. If the wheels are cast with a flattened contact patch, take care when fitting them that the flattened part is at the bottom.
