The dispensers fire two kinds of decoy. Chaff consists of strips of metal foil that scatter the radar return and unsettle the guidance of a radar-guided missile. Flares burn at a high temperature and draw a heat-seeking missile away from the aircraft. The device is mounted on the machine externally or into a recess in the skin and usually carries a grid of cartridge tubes, which the injection-molded plastic of a kit can only manage in a simplified form. That is exactly where a resin casting helps most.
