Fairey Rotodyne XE-521 (1:72) is a plastic kit of the British experimental compound helicopter from Airfix.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British experimental transport machine Fairey Rotodyne in 1:72 scale from Airfix. It is a reissue of a classic mold in the Vintage Classics range. The model captures a unique machine with a large lifting rotor and two turboprop engines on the wings, and it offers the markings of the aircraft XE-521.
The Fairey Rotodyne was a compound helicopter of unusual size whose first flight took place in November 1957. The large rotor was driven by air bled from two Napier Eland engines on the wings and served for vertical takeoff, landing and hovering. In level flight the machine was then driven by the tractor propellers of the turboprop engines. The Rotodyne combined the vertical takeoff of a helicopter with the speed of an airplane, but the project was never completed.
This is an older mold, so expect careful cleanup and test fitting of the parts. Masking the cabin glazing is recommended, as is filling the joints sparingly and gluing the plastic with modeling cement for polystyrene. A primer coat and spraying with an airbrush are a good idea.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
