An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale showing the Soviet ISU-122 heavy self-propelled gun. The designation 1+1 in the name matches the way the maker S-model packages part of its range, that is two complete models in one box. You can therefore build a pair of vehicles into one scene, or keep one example for a later build. The models are supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The ISU-122 was a Soviet heavy self-propelled gun of the end of the Second World War built on the chassis of the IS series heavy tank. Instead of a rotating turret it had a fixed armored casemate with a 122 mm gun derived from the proven corps gun. The turretless arrangement made it possible to install a powerful weapon in a relatively compact and well armored hull. The vehicle was used to support an attack with direct fire, to destroy fortifications and to fight armored targets at longer range. It was produced alongside a related version armed with a 152 mm howitzer, and the two differ outwardly above all in the barrel and its mounting.
In a small scale it helps to build in subassemblies: the running gear and the tracks separately, the hull with the casemate separately. Spray the tracks and the wheels before the final assembly, otherwise they are hard to reach later. The base is the typical dark green; depth is added by highlighting the upper surfaces, a thin wash in the engraved lines and dry-brushing on the edges and the seams of the armor. On the tracks and the lower hull a mixture of dust and mud pigments looks good, because it is precisely the wear that turns a small model into a convincing vehicle. Check the barrel against the light and sand any mold seam carefully.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
