A set of resin pylons intended to improve a model of the Lockheed Neptune patrol aircraft in 1:72 scale. Pylons are among the parts an injection mold handles worst, because they are slender beams with crisp edges and small locks. A resin casting allows a thinner profile and legible detail, so the store station under the wing does not read as an angular plastic wedge. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory; the contents of the package are stated on the box and in the instructions.
The Neptune was a land-based patrol and anti-submarine machine that spent most of its service over the sea at low altitude. Besides its internal bomb bay it could carry armament and equipment on pylons under the wing, which widened its possibilities beyond the search for submarines alone. The stores changed over the course of its service according to the version and the operator, because the machine served with several navies and went through a number of upgrades. It is therefore always worth checking the particular arrangement of stores against a photograph of the machine you are building.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise the paint will not hold on the mold release residue. On thin pylons, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand them wet, so that they do not crumble and so that you do not breathe in the dust. Mark the position of the pylons on the wing with a pencil or a light scribe according to the drawing and check dry whether they stand parallel to the axis of the machine. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, and on larger parts a wire pin sunk into the wing will help. They are usually painted together with the underside of the wing, and a fine wash will then bring out the edges and the locks.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
