A plastic kit of the four-engine American Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bomber in 1:72 scale from the Italian manufacturer Italeri. This sizeable model, over 31 cm long, offers a rich surface and a set of decals with several striking schemes, among which the famous Memphis Belle is not missing. This is an injection-molded plastic model to be glued and painted.
The B-17 was one of the symbols of American strategic bombing during the Second World War. The F version of 1942 and 1943 was marked by a fully glazed nose and a series of detail changes. The Flying Fortress became famous for its belt of defensive gun turrets and for its ability to bring a crew home even after heavy damage. It was deployed above all on daylight raids over occupied Europe from British bases. The F version was gradually replaced by the better-armed G with a chin turret, but the F remains bound up with the most famous raids of the Eighth Air Force and with the Memphis Belle, the machine made famous on film.
The extensive glazing (the nose, the cockpit, the turrets) is worth masking and gluing with clear cement, so that the surfaces do not go dull. Create the natural metal finish of the later machines with metallic paints over a smooth base; on machines with an olive upper surface add a matte varnish. Pick the panel lines and rivets out gently with a wash and keep the wear restrained. The clear nose cover for the navigator and the upper turret deserve especially careful polishing and masking, as they are the visual focus of the model.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
