The finest step of the hexagon head with a low profile, 0.5 millimeters in size.
Responsibility details are not available.
Half a millimeter is the lower limit of what can still be told as a hexagon on a model. It matches the joints that carry nothing on a real machine and merely hold something in place: the bezels of gauges and their mounts, the frames of warning lights, the caps of adjustment holes, the small covers of bearings and the clips of rods. They are tightened by hand or with a small key and their head is deliberately kept low, so that it is in the way neither of the hand nor of the part lying against it.
A low profile matters with this version. An ordinary hexagon head is taller than tends to be wanted on small instrument parts, and on a model it becomes an unnaturally tall prism. The lowered variant keeps the right ratio between width and height even at the moment when a scale-wise smaller setting is visible beside it, the glass of a gauge for instance or a thin strip of a dashboard.
The choice of diameter follows from how large the part around it is. For the instrument group, electrical mounts and fine frames, the smallest size offered is usually the right one; a larger head would look coarse on such a surface. Metal, moreover, will take the head being tightened down slightly after fitting and leveled flat, which a molded imitation bump does not allow.
