Red brick holds a whole period of European building: factory halls, engine sheds, storage depots, boundary walls and the retaining walls along the lines. On a model, though, brick masonry is treacherous, because the regular coursed pattern is very hard to imitate by hand and any inaccuracy shows at once. These boards from the Heki company carry a ready-made raised relief of a red brick wall.
The package holds two pieces, each measuring 28 x 14 cm. The boards are intended for H0 and TT scales, that is for the ratios 1:87 and 1:120. In H0 scale the longer side corresponds to roughly 24 meters of real length, in TT to just under 34 meters. The pair can be laid side by side into a continuous wall, or split between two separate places in a scene.
Lay the boards out dry and run the joint where an upright part will cover it, for example a pilaster, a downpipe or the corner of a building. Fix them to the base according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not stay with one tone when painting: lay the base in a brick shade, work a thin light gray paint into the joints and, once it has dried, pick several bricks out in a darker and in a lighter paint. Finally add the marks of water running under the sills and, at the foot of the wall, the dirt from splashing water, so that the wall settles into its surroundings.
The boards will be appreciated by builders of layouts and dioramas in H0 and TT scale who are building a factory site, a station building, a storage depot or a boundary wall. The paints, the glue and other building material are not part of the package, unless stated otherwise.
