About product

Color 3D interior of the early production P-40N in 1:32 scale

This is a set of color interior parts printed by 3D printing straight onto decal paper. It is not a resin set for gluing and it is not a model of an aircraft either. The elements have genuine three-dimensional relief — the instrument panel, the side consoles, levers and buckles stand above the surface — but they are applied just like a decal, that is, by soaking and transferring onto the surface. That does away with the biggest drawback of photo-etched sets, namely the need to color and clear coat everything by hand. The decals are shaped for the parts of the Hasegawa and Eduard kits.

The real subject

The P-40N was the most numerous production version of the P-40 fighter. It came about as a lightened reworking of the older machines in an effort to improve the climb and the performance at altitude. Early examples of the series differ from the later ones among other things in their equipment and in the treatment of the space behind the pilot, which is why accessories tell the early and the later form apart. This set is meant for the early production; the later form the manufacturer releases as a separate set.

Application tips

Proceed as with a decal, only more carefully. Cut the part out close to the edge, soak it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and let it rest on the paper until it will move — never pull it straight out of the water. The surface it goes onto must be smooth and preferably gloss; on a matte surface air bubbles will form under the decal. Draw off the excess water with the edge of a paper towel and do not press on the relief. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution: the chemistry will attack the printed resin and ruin the element. Finally clear coat the area with a matte coat, so that the gloss of the surface disappears and the interior looks painted.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want a rich interior without coloring small details by hand
  • Builders in a large scale, where the cabin is clearly visible
  • Those who would rather work with a decal than with photo-etch and resin
  • A build of the early production form of the N version

This is an accessory. The kit, paints and clear coat are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. The parts are printed on decal paper and are transferred by soaking, like a decal, even though they have a genuine three-dimensional surface.

No. The parts come in color from the factory. At the end they are usually clear coated with a matte coat, so that the gloss of the surface disappears.

A smooth and gloss one. On a matte surface air bubbles form under the decal and they are hard to remove.

The early and the later examples of the series differed in equipment, which is why the manufacturer makes two separate sets.

It is intended for the Hasegawa and Eduard kits.
