An accessory set of small parts for a model of the British Rolls-Royce armored car in 1:35 scale. According to the name the contents are pioneer tools and ammunition, that is the equipment carried on the real vehicle on the fenders, on the sides of the hull and in stowage spaces. It is not a model of the vehicle but a set of accessories to bring it to life; the parts are castings.

What the set is good for

Tools and ammunition boxes are among the details the eye notices on a finished model sooner than the exact shape of the hull. The production parts in base kits tend to be simplified, with soft edges and often cast in one piece with their mounting. A separate set makes it possible to replace these items with more crisply rendered parts, to distribute them more freely and above all to paint them separately: wooden handles, metal blades and sheet-metal covers each have a different surface and a different kind of wear.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release residue is left on the surface, as paint does not hold on a greasy surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp scalpel; never snap them. Protect your airways when sanding and work wet for preference. Glue with cyanoacrylate, which holds on castings, and in small doses. Paint the parts off the model and only then seat them: with tools lashed to the hull you can practically not reach with a brush. Do the handles in a warm brown tone with lightened edges, and the metal parts dark with wear suggested at the points of contact. Weather the ammunition boxes sparingly so that they stay legible as separately stowed cargo.
