A standing CH-54A Tarhe crew in early gear, scale 1:35: figures to stand beside the helicopter in a diorama scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
Standing figures offer something a seated crew can never do: a comparison of size. Beside the giant Sikorsky S-64 it is only a human silhouette that shows how unusual the dimensions of that machine were. The set is printed at high resolution and captures the gear of the start of its service, that is from the range 1962 to 1968.
A group by the front landing gear leg or under the spine, where the crew gathered before takeoff, looks most natural. A second option is to space them along a slung load; there a readable story comes about, because the viewer grasps at once what is happening in the scene. It pays to leave free space between the figures, so that the group does not shrink into a single huddle.
The army version of the Skycrane was built around a single idea: carry as much as possible and keep the load visibly underneath. The skeletal structure without a cargo hold was bold for its time and proved itself in the mountainous ground of Southeast Asia. The machine could fly in, set a load down exactly in place and fly away without ever touching the ground.
The helicopter and the base are not included in the package. On a grassy surface, count on having to sink the figures slightly into the ground, so that they do not stand as if on glass.
