A set of German infantrymen from the Ardennes offensive in 1:35 scale from the Ukrainian brand MiniArt. It is not a vehicle kit but a set of figures which are added to vehicles or built on their own as a scene. Scale 1:35 is the most widespread in military models, so the figures will fit the vast majority of kits of tanks, guns and trucks.
The German offensive in the Ardennes began in the middle of December 1944 and was fought in exceptionally bad weather, in wet snow, fog and mud. The infantry therefore looks different from that of the summer campaigns: long greatcoats or winter suits, a knitted cap under the helmet, blankets and tent sections thrown over the gear. Low cloud kept Allied aircraft on the ground at first, which is a gift for a diorama, because the scene can be open and does not have to allow for concealment from above.
Fill the joints of the arms and the head carefully, otherwise the gap will stand out even more once the paint is sprayed on. A winter scene tempts you into pure white, but snow on a figure only works in small amounts, and the shoulders, the boots and the folds are enough. Uniform cloth darkens and gets damp in such weather, so dirty the lower part of the greatcoats and trouser legs with a dark wash and pigment. Keep the skin in a cooler tone with a pinkish tip of the nose and cheeks, because warm summer skin looks false in a winter scene.
