Reskit F-14 Tomcat Air Intakes in 1:72 scale replaces the kit air intakes with 3D-printed ducts without seams for the A, B and D versions of the famous carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The angular air intakes are the first thing an observer notices on a Tomcat model. Reskit has therefore prepared a 3D-printed set of intake ducts for the F-14A, B and D versions in 1:72 scale, made so that no longitudinal seams arise inside, the kind that are hard to fill on split kit parts. The set is cut for one particular kit - the full product name carries its designation.
The Grumman F-14 Tomcat protected American carrier groups from the 1970s until 2006. Its variable-geometry wing was complemented by widely spaced engine nacelles whose obliquely cut intakes with movable ramps controlled the airflow from subsonic speeds to more than twice the speed of sound. The open mouths of the intakes are visible on a model from the front and from the side.
Spray the insides of the ducts gloss white before they are built in and plug the mouths with a piece of foam while the camouflage is sprayed. Sand the join to the airframe away to nothing and check the transition under sharp side lighting. After a fine dark wash the ramps and the internal division of the intake will stand out. The reward is a clean view into the ducts that stands up even to a detailed photograph.
