This item is not a model of an aircraft but a resin detail accessory. By its name the package contains two pieces of the laser-guided GBU-24 aerial bomb in the A/B version in 1:72 scale. The manufacturer also keeps the B variant separately, so watch the designation in the name when choosing. Resin castings allow finer shaping of the guidance head and of the thin control surfaces than can be achieved by injecting into plastic.
The GBU-24 belongs to the Paveway III family of laser-guided munitions. Compared with older guided bombs it has a more elaborate autopilot and a guidance law that allows release even from low altitude. Its characteristic features are the long guidance head at the front and the deployable control surfaces at the rear. Munitions of this type are hung under an aircraft on standard pylons and are seen on models of American-built tactical aircraft and on machines of foreign users alike.
Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and free them of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and touch the surface up with a file; sand wet and with respiratory protection. They are glued with cyanoacrylate super glue, and with a heavier store it pays to reinforce the joint with a pin made of wire. External stores are usually painted in a uniform shade with colored bands according to the markings; a fine dusting with pigment at the end removes the impression of freshly manufactured munitions.
