Gloss Icy White Base Color is a white base paint with a gloss finish from the CL range, which the brand Gunze runs under the Mr.Color name. The name describes it as an icy white, that is, a white with a cool cast that does not slide into a creamy tone. The gloss is not only a matter of looks: a smooth surface sands flat more easily and the paint that goes on top of it follows on without patches.
A white base decides how the colors laid over it turn out. Yellow, orange, red and light blue shades have weak covering power and look dull over a dark base; over white they come alive and fewer coats are needed. A gloss surface also suits decals, because no silvery veil forms under their film on it. White is used as the starting layer for graded shading as well, where the final shade is built up step by step.
