About product

1:16 Gatling gun, a 3D-printed model (FLY)

This is a 3D-printed resin model of the historic Gatling gun in the large, detailed 1:16 scale from the brand FLY. It is not a working weapon and not a toy; it is an unpainted model intended as a collector's object in its own right, or as an accessory for a diorama or a scene. It is supplied as a resin part (usually in several pieces) to be cleaned up, assembled and painted. The large 1:16 scale lets the detail come out, above all the cluster of barrels.

What it represents

The Gatling is one of the first practically usable rapid-fire weapons of the 19th century, named after its designer Richard Gatling. Characteristic is a cluster of several barrels arranged in a circle, which rotated under a hand crank drive; as they turned, individual rounds were loaded and fired one after another, so that the weapon reached a high rate of fire for its time. It was used in the second half of the 19th century and is regarded as a forerunner of modern machine guns. The model captures the typical multi-barrel construction with its crank.

Building and painting tips

Carefully separate the parts from the print supports, clean up the marks they leave and wash the surface clean of residue. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Apply a primer before painting; bring out the metal parts with metallic shades or a metallic paint (stir thoroughly) and finish the surface with a wash and pigments for the impression of an old, used weapon. Set the wooden and the brass elements apart in color. Sand resin with respiratory protection.

Who it is for

  • collectors of historic weapons and models in 1:16 scale
  • builders of 19th-century dioramas who want a strong focal point
  • modelers who enjoy a detailed resin part as an object in its own right

This is a model of a weapon (an accessory or an object in its own right), not a working weapon and not a toy. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and further accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a static resin model of a weapon intended for collecting or for a diorama. It does not fire and it is not a toy.

It is a large, detailed scale in which elements such as the cluster of barrels, the crank and the carriage come out well. The model then stands as a strong object in its own right.
