Field Drab FS 30118 in a 17 ml bottle

A paint from AK Interactive's Real Colors range with the code RC894, a volume of 17 ml. This muted gray-brown is set by the number FS 30118 from the American standard of shades. It is one of those tones that are hard to put into words and easy to confuse, so the number of the standard has its worth here.

The real subject

A gray-brown of this type stayed with the American army for a long time and, outside camouflage schemes, covered mainly what makes a model credible: tarpaulins, straps, bags, crates and crew equipment. In the field it is a color that shouts nowhere, because it lacks both green and any marked brown. That is why it also suits surfaces where the finish is meant to blend with dusty surroundings, and as a tone for the fabric parts of figures.

Working with the paint

• On small parts and equipment a brush is enough; large surfaces are better managed with an airbrush.
• A muted tone looks different once dry than it does in the bottle, so make a test spray.
• Shake the bottle before work, as the pigment settles to the bottom.
• Thin it with the product recommended for this range and lay on thin coats.
• Lighten the fabric parts along the edges of the folds, or they will stay flat.

Who it will serve

Builders of military vehicles and figures in any scale who need a muted earthy tone for equipment, tarpaulins and stowage and for the fields of multi-color camouflage. Work in a well-ventilated room.

The package holds one bottle of paint of 17 ml. Thinner, brushes, an airbrush and varnish are not included, unless stated otherwise.
