The book output of AK Interactive sits on the border between reference work and bench instruction. Some titles are monographs of individual machines - helicopters and aircraft - with extensive photographic documentation. Others are learning volumes devoted to a single technique, such as painting leather and canvas or working on figures. A third group covers armoured vehicles and combines history with the method for reproducing it in miniature, so a single volume can settle both which variant to build and how to finish it. Below we explain which of the three groups answers which question.

A type monograph from this publisher is strongly visual: much of the page count goes to close-up photographs of the machine, supported by a description of versions. The learning series is the opposite in structure - one subject, several models, numbered stages of work. The armour titles combine both, setting historical context next to the colour and weathering solution that matches it.
That is the first question worth asking. If you can already spray and weather and simply need to know how the machine looked, take the monograph. If the model is painted but the result does not convince, a learning volume covering the stage where you are stuck will do more.
Helicopter and aircraft monographs suit aviation builds, the armour titles ground subjects. Methods only partly transfer between the two: a helicopter has different sources of staining and a different surface structure from a tank.
Figure painting has volumes of its own here and deserves them. Brushwork on a face at close range has almost nothing in common with airbrushing a fuselage, and a dedicated title shortens the learning considerably.
Other technique books sit in modelling technique books, and the single-topic magazine equivalent in The Weathering Magazine.
