A resin figure of a French Air Force pilot of the Second World War period in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft but an accessory to one: a figure that gives a built model a reference for scale and turns a static display case into a scene. Aerobonus is the figure and diorama line of the Aires family; its products are cast in resin rather than injection-molded in plastic.
The figure comes as one casting or several castings on casting blocks. Cut the blocks off with a saw or a fine disc; breaking them does not pay, as resin cracks unpredictably. True the mating surfaces wet and with respiratory protection. Then wash the casting in lukewarm water with a degreasing agent: mold release agent stays in the surface and without washing the paint would peel. Run a scalpel along the parting seams on the sleeves, the trouser legs and the boots and finish them with fine abrasive paper. Bond the joints with super glue, fill any gaps with modeling putty and sand them down.
First try the figure dry in its intended place, in the cockpit, by the wing or on the ground beside the model. The pose is set by the casting; what you can influence is mainly how the figure is turned and how high it is packed up. Then comes the primer and only after it the paints. A proven order is skin, clothing, equipment and finally the small details. The folds of the clothing are brought out with a darker wash and highlighted edges, leather items come alive with a thin coat of gloss varnish while fabric should stay matte. A final matte varnish evens the whole impression out.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, as a resin casting. Paints, glue and a model of an aircraft are not included in the package.
