A resin accessory for a model of the carrier fighter version F-4B in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Aires. It replaces the exhaust section of both engine nacelles with a more accurate casting. It is not a kit of an aircraft but a part with which an already bought model is refined. Similar-sounding sets come from other manufacturers too, so when choosing, go by the stated manufacturer.
The Phantom has its exhaust section ending in two parallel nozzles seated close beside each other, so from behind they form a prominent pair the eye falls on at once. Injection-molded plastic as a rule deals with it in two halves with a parting line across the center and with an edge too thick for the scale. A resin casting allows a thin wall and fine detail on the internal surfaces without any sanding afterward.
Wash the set in lukewarm water with detergent, so that no mold release agent stays on the surface. Cut the casting block off and even the surface up on abrasive paper laid flat. Always try the fit dry first and even out any difference in diameter by sanding the nacelle, not the thin-walled nozzle. Glue with super glue. Paint the interior separately before you seat the set, and deal with the transition between the lighter root and the darker edge smoothly in thin coats. Suggest the residues of exhaust gases around the edge with pigment applied dry, not with sprayed black paint. Then check both nozzles against each other, so that they project equally, as asymmetry on this pair is immediately evident from behind.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and unassembled. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Please check that it matches your own particular kit.
