This is an accessory for building a diorama in 1:35 scale. The base gives a figure or a small scene a firm ground and at the same time determines what the model stands on, so it is not just a plinth but a piece of terrain. The motif is soil, which is the most universal surface: it suits a field scene, a track and a broken edge of built-up area alike.
Plan the composition before you glue the model down. A figure or a vehicle should not stand exactly in the middle, as the scene usually gains by that. Attach the model so that it sits across its whole footprint, otherwise it will look as if it is floating. The edges of the base can be faced with a strip around the perimeter or left as they are if the edge is clean. It is a good idea to keep the finished scene in a display case, because open terrain attracts dust.
What livens terrain up most is work with shades: unify the base with one darker coat, then bring out the raised places with a dry brush and finally add dust pigments. Static grass, small stones and crushed bark will give the surface scale and cost little. Seal pigments and loose materials with thin glue or a sealer applied with a dropper, so that they do not collect into little heaps. The exact form and the material of the base are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
