About product

Decals of German panzer division insignia, 1:35 scale

This is a decal sheet from the AMMO of Mig Jimenez brand, not a model. The subject of the sheet is the identifying insignia of German panzer divisions from the period of the Second World War in 1:35 scale, that is in the most widespread scale for armor. You will use the sheet where you want to assign a model to a particular unit or to unify the look of the markings on several vehicles in a display case.

What the markings were for

Divisional insignia were simple geometric symbols applied to the fenders and to the front and rear of the hull. They served purely to tell units apart organizationally in the field and to help with orientation when columns were on the move. The execution was often done in the field, that is sprayed through a stencil or painted with a brush right at the unit, and that is why the size and the placement of the same insignia differed from vehicle to vehicle. That is exactly what gives the modeler freedom: the insignia does not have to sit to the millimeter and slight deviations look more convincing than a perfectly aligned row.

Usage tips

Apply the markings only over a smooth gloss coat above the finished paint. Cut the motif out as close to the artwork as you can, soak it briefly and let it rest until the carrier film releases. Transfer it onto the surface with a soft brush, straighten it and blot the excess water away. Over rivets, welds and edges use a decal softener so that the decal settles without bubbles. Once it has dried, knock everything back with a matte varnish, which makes the glossy outline disappear, and only then do the washes, the dust and the chipping. If you want the look of field-applied paint, you can carefully thin the insignia after the matte coat with a fine abrasive sponge pad.

Who the sheet is for

  • Builders of armor in 1:35 scale who want to assign a model to a particular unit.
  • Modelers whose box is missing exactly the divisional insignia they need.
  • Those building several vehicles for one scene who want consistent markings.
  • More experienced builders working with a decal softener and a final varnish.

This is an accessory, not a model. Kits, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. These are unit identifying insignia, not camouflage. You apply the paints yourself.

For armor in 1:35 scale from any manufacturer, because the markings are applied onto a finished paint coat.

After the matte coat thin the decal slightly with a fine abrasive pad and add dust or chipping. The insignia then does not look like a print.

The exact breakdown of the insignia is part of the package.
