1:48 Torpedo Mk.54, a pair is a resin set from Metallic Details. It adds a newer type of light torpedo to models of anti-submarine aircraft; it is not a model itself.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set brings a pair of light Mk.54 anti-submarine torpedoes in 1:48 scale. Although the name contains the word for a kit, it is not a model of an aircraft but a resin accessory for external stores for a machine that has already been built. It comes into its own on newer naval aircraft, on which the older type of torpedo looks anachronistic, and it will serve equally well as a detail in a deck or hangar scene.
The Mk.54 is a newer American light anti-submarine torpedo that is gradually replacing the older type of the same caliber in service. In design it builds on a proven propulsion section and adds more modern homing and processing electronics, which is meant to help it above all in shallow coastal waters with a noisy background. It is carried by patrol and anti-submarine aircraft and by carrier helicopters.
The procedure is the same as with other resin parts, but with torpedoes one further rule applies: watch the straightness. A long cylindrical body gives away every irregularity, so after cutting the casting block off, true the face on abrasive paper laid on a board rather than freehand. Apply a primer before painting, best in a thin coat, so that it does not flood the fine engraving. The paint schemes of practice and live rounds differ markedly, so make up your mind first what situation the model shows. Keep the weathering restrained, as stores tend to be well maintained.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
