1:700 USN Life Baskets (Post-war) is a photo-etched set from the brand Flyhawk with the baskets for the life rafts of American ships of the postwar period in 1:700 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a photo-etched accessory, not a kit. The set adds to models of American warships in 1:700 scale the baskets and frames for stowing life rafts in the form used after the Second World War.
The stowage of life-saving equipment is one of those details that on a real ship are scattered over the whole superstructure and sides, but in plastic in 1:700 scale all that is left of them is a suggested shape. An etched part has a real wall thickness, so a basket looks like an open structure and not like a block. The postwar form, moreover, differs in shape from the wartime one, so the set also serves as a guide to placing a ship correctly in the period you are building.
Carefully pare the original plastic shapes off the deck and sand the area over. Separate the etched parts with a scalpel and bend them over the edge of a bending tool; with small baskets it pays to make a forming jig of hard plastic beforehand. Glue with a tiny amount of cyanoacrylate glue and blow any surplus away, so that the fine mesh is not clogged. Degrease the brass before painting and prime it; the baskets are then painted in the same shade as the deck and the rafts in a contrasting one.
The package contains photo-etched parts only. The model of the ship, glue and paints are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
