This injection-molded plastic kit captures the British cabin high-wing monoplane de Havilland DH.80A Puss Moth in the form in which it was fitted with a pair of floats instead of wheeled landing gear and operated from water. The model is meant to be glued and painted and is supplied unassembled. The exact contents of the package, the number of parts and the range of decal schemes are stated on the packaging.
The Puss Moth was a three-seat cabin aircraft with a high-mounted wing, strut bracing and an inverted inline engine of the de Havilland Gipsy line. It was created at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s as a comfortable touring machine for private owners and smaller operators. The enclosed cabin, the good range and the ability to fold the wings along the fuselage made it a popular type for the long-distance and record flights of its day. The float conversion widened its use where there were no airfields, above all for communications over stretches of water and difficult terrain.
In a small scale it pays to test all the main assemblies dry first and only then glue them. Paint the cabin and the inside of the fuselage before you close the fuselage up, mask the glazing and glue it in only after the finish has been sprayed. The most sensitive part of the build is attaching the floats and their struts, for which it is a good idea to prepare a simple jig in advance so that they stand symmetrically and at the right height. Use a thin glue on the plastic, apply a thin primer before painting and a gloss varnish under the decals, and unify the surface at the end with a matte or semi-matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
