1:20 MP4/13 Super Detail-Up Set

What the set is intended for

This is an accessory set for a model of a Formula 1 single-seater in 1:20 scale, described as super detail. Sets like this are bought for a model under construction when the result is to come closer to the real car than the kit alone can manage. The work with them is finer and slower, but the reward is detail that stands up even to a close look and to a photograph.

The real subject

The designation MP4/13 belongs to the Formula 1 single-seater of the McLaren team from the 1998 season. The 1:20 scale has long been established for Formula 1 models and a finished car in it is a sensible size for a display case, while the suspension, the cockpit area and the shaping of the front and rear wings all stand out.

How to work with the set

Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little from the part and carefully sand the remainder so that you do not spoil the shape. If the parts of the accessory set are not polystyrene, cement for plastic kits has no effect on them, so use super glue or an epoxy. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the coat will not hold on a smooth surface. Work with tweezers over a hard surface and try the small elements dry before you reach for the glue. The particular assembly sequence follows the manufacturer's instructions.

• an accessory detail set for a model of a Formula 1 single-seater
• 1:20 scale
• subject: the MP4/13 single-seater
• bonded with super glue or an epoxy, not with cement for polystyrene
• the parts have to be washed and degreased before painting
