A plastic kit of the Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku in 1:350 scale from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi. With a ship of this size, 1:350 scale means a striking display model with enough room for detail: the flight deck, the elevators, the island superstructure and the anti-aircraft armament can all be taken to a level that 1:700 does not allow.
Zuikaku was the second unit of the pair of large aircraft carriers of her class, completed shortly before Japan entered the Pacific War. She was a fast carrier with a full-length flight deck, an island superstructure on the starboard side and an extensive hangar space; compared with the older Japanese carriers she had both a greater range and better protection. She took part in the main operations of the Pacific theater and was lost in 1944 during the fighting off the Philippines.
A large ship model is built in subassemblies: the hull, the hangar deck, the flight deck, the superstructure and the armament separately, and only then the whole. Shim the hull thoroughly so that it is not twisted once glued, and sand the joints of the hull sides before you start painting. Deal with the flight deck on its own: the planked surface can be shaded in several tones of brown and gray, or replaced with wooden veneer. Unify the gray areas with an airbrush and paint the small anti-aircraft armament on a skewer away from the model. Reckon with the finished model needing a firm stand and a display case of a corresponding length.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
