An injection-molded plastic kit of the American MH-53E heavy naval helicopter in 1:48 scale. It is a big machine, so even at this scale the result is a large model with a long fuselage and a big rotor. The helicopter is unmistakable thanks to the massive sponson tanks along the sides of the fuselage.
The MH-53E came about as the naval variant of a heavy transport helicopter, adapted for finding and destroying mines. It towed a minesweeping sled behind it, which called for a great deal of thrust and fuel, and that is exactly why it was given enlarged side tanks. Power comes from three turboshaft engines and the main rotor has seven blades. Besides mine countermeasures it also served to move cargo and people between ships and to the shore.
The large fuselage surfaces have to be dry-fitted and the joints carefully filled. Finish the cockpit and the cargo compartment before you close the fuselage. Glue the rotor blades right at the end, because they are easy to catch on, and watch that the pitch angle is the same on all of them. Naval machines tend to be heavily worn by salt and exhaust gases, so the patina can be pronounced, especially behind the engines and around the tanks.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
